October 2013

I have received confirmation from Callaway that all is set for us to come paint at Callaway weekends in October. This is a blanket message to all that are on this list. Even though all of you will be coming on different weekends, the same information holds true.

You can paint in the gardens on any Friday, Saturday or Sunday in the month of October as a guest of Patricia Collins and Phyllis Franklin. Just tell the gate attendant that you are painting in the gardens as "Callaway Painters" by invitation of Patricia Collins, Director of the gardens, and Phyllis Franklin, Longleaf homeowner.

Once you arrive inside the gardens, please call me at 706-975-6419 or just come by the Discovery Center and check in at the information desk. I'll leave a book there so you can write your name and where you THINK you might be painting. Do this each day you are at Callaway. You do not have to stay in the spot you THINK you will be painting. No rules, just fun...remember. We just need to know who arrives each day.

Some of you may want to meet somewhere for lunch. If you do, I suggest you go outside the gardens to get something and then bring it back in or just pack a lunch before you go over.

Because I have my house rented at Callaway, I can not get you through the gates early in the morning like we usually do. We will need to wait until the gates open at 9. If you want to paint earlier, you can paint the drive going into the gardens or other public spaces around the grounds. There are some really pretty vistas that would be fun to paint at that time and then just come into the gardens after 9.

The garden facilities and buildings close at 5 but you do not have to leave then. I believe the gates will stay open until 8, so you can still get out. I am sure the gate that connects to Hwy 27 close to Overlook Garden and the Garden Restaurant will still let you out as it is automated. The main gate off Hwy 18 is manually closed, so sometimes it may close early. You can ask for a map when you go through the main gate on hwy 18.
